Help! I’m in love with an alien! by Jessica E Subject

Hello readers! I’m here with the heroines from my new box set, An Alien to Love, to engage in a panel discussion with them about dating an alien, or aliens, as is the case for one guest. So, being as we don’t have a lot of time, let’s get started.

Ladies, what was your first reaction when you learned your date was an alien?

Ava: I was shocked. I mean, I knew Nate came from a different planet, but I didn’t expect him to be Claustrian. Though, it explained why he vanished from my life all those years ago.

Carrie: You were shocked? I didn’t even know aliens existed until I met Frey.

Danyka: Me, too! I mean, I believed, but I never expected to come face-to-face with an extraterrestrial, let alone end up the soul mate to two of them.

Melinda: I was happy. I write about relationships with aliens all the time. Though, I never believed my childhood neighbor to be from another planet. His reaction to my finding out was much worse. Thank goodness he got over that.

Skylar: I’m not sure I can answer your question, since I’m not from Earth. But, when I learned the identity of my date, I ran. I thought he planned to take me back to the tentacled space pirate I was supposed to marry.

An Alien to Love teaser 11

All interesting reactions, but your dates seem to have worked out in the end. So, let me in on a secret. What’s the worst thing about being with a man from another planet?

Carrie: I couldn’t give birth to my daughter in a hospital. I had to disappear when I was ready to deliver, and remain in hiding for the early part of her life.

Danyka: Yes, it’s hard to live on Earth when the government wants to dissect the man or men you love.

Melinda: Wow, I hadn’t thought of that. Cooper has lived here all his life, but… Maybe we won’t have children.

Well, this is depressing. How about you all tell me the best thing about being with an alien.

Skylar: Finally, a question I can answer. He understands me. And he makes me happy.

Carrie: [nodding] He knew what I longed for from the moment we met.

Melinda: He’s all my fantasies come true.

Danyka: Fine, I’ll say it. The sex is out of this world.

Ava: Yes, explosive.

[The is a lot of smiling and nodding around the room.]

And on that note, I’ll let you all go. I know some of you have a spaceship to catch. Thank you for taking the time to chat with us today!

Fictional Heroes Who Inspired My Own by Pippa Jay

Hi, I’m Pippa Jay, author of scifi and the supernatural with a romantic soul. I adore tortured heroes, so I thought I’d talk about the two who have most inspired my own.

The first is a certain farm-boy from the desert planet Tatooine. I saw Star Wars: A New Hope televised when I was eight, and instantly developed a crush on young Luke Skywalker. Orphaned and stuck on a world he describes as ‘if there’s a bright center to the universe, you’re on the planet that it’s farthest from’, desperate to join the rebellion and fight with his friends. A bit bratty? Perhaps. But in quick succession he loses his home and the only family he’s known, gets called ‘short’ by the princess he’s rescuing, sees his mentor killed, gets sent to a mud-hole to train and finds out he has to face Vader to become a Jedi, then learns the second most evil entity in the entire universe is daddy! Plus he learns his princess is his sister, and the Emperor is perfectly willing to sacrifice all Luke’s friends to turn him to the Dark Side. Even as good triumphs, Luke must say goodbye to his father for good. Wow!

Keir Quote 6

The second is Ged from A Wizard of Earthsea, a fantasy story by Ursula Le Guin. This was my assigned English read at school, aged ten, and I’ve reread it so many times since I’ve had to replace the paperback twice! Ged, or Sparrowhawk, also begins as a brat. He’s had a hard start, motherless and used as slave labour by his father. He’s arrogant, sullen, and has no friends, but he has a glimmer of power and his witch aunt sets him on the road to mastery. When he saves his entire village from marauding warriors, he’s sent to the Wizard school on Roke. But in his pride and in spite, he unleashes a shadow creature that is bound to him, and could do the greatest evil through him should he become possessed. So, scarred and humbled by his ordeal, Ged seeks out to put it right, almost losing himself in the process.

Both these young heroes had such a huge influence on my reading and my writing, and still remain two of my most memorable. So I can’t deny there isn’t a trace of them in my own heroes and especially Keir – my first hero.

Bringing Characters to Life by Jessica E. Subject

Recently, I’ve had three of my titles produced as audio books, and I’ve worked with three different narrators, both male and female, each producing a different type of story. While I’ve read my stories out loud many times, it is completely different when someone else reads my work. For the auditions, I chose scenes between two important characters, sometimes a sex scene. Those are definitely interesting. If a narrator makes a romantic interlude between two or more characters sound more like a porn flick, or something else totally creepy, they are definitely not the one you want. I have listened to a few of those.TSP once upon a time teaser

After I decided on a narrator, I waited to listen to the first fifteen minutes of the production. This is where I get to check for mispronunciations and decide whether I like the voices the narrators have used for all of my characters. It can get interesting here. I’ve only had minor corrections in this department, but I can definitely say that my narrators don’t always understand a character the same way I do. It really is all about interpretation. I’m not saying it’s always like this. With my most recent audio book to be produced, not yet released, the narrator “got” both of my main characters on the first try. With The Star Princess, the narrator asked a lot of questions before recording anything, which was really nice. I’ve learned that the more information you give a narrator beforehand, the less corrections you’ll have to make in the end.

Listening to the entire production is like an out-of-body experience. Not only did I spend some time writing these stories, I spent even longer editing them, reciting the words over and over in my head to make sure everything flowed correctly. When someone else reads the same words, it’s like my characters have come to life. They are no longer in my head or simply on paper.

If you would like to listen to samples from my audio books, you can find them here on Soundcloud.

Music Fit for a Princess by Jessica E Subject

Thank you to the ladies of Literary Lagniappe for having me back. It’s always a pleasure to be here.

With the majority of my stories, I create a playlist with music that relates to my characters, settings, and even specific scenes in the story.

I had a lot of fun creating the playlist for The Star Princess, choosing songs I didn’t have on previous playlists, and purchasing songs I knew I needed for inspiration.

Here’s 10 songs from my playlist for The Star Princess:

Before You by Chantal Kreviazuk

Castle in the Sky by DJ Satomi

Closer by Tegan and Sara

Kiss You Inside Out by Hedley

Safe and Sound by Capital Cities

To You I Belong by B*Witched

Two Princes by Spin Doctors

We Found Love by Rihanna

What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger) by Kelly Clarkson

You Found Me by Kelly Clarkson

 ***

Here’s an excerpt that reminds me of the song Two Princes, when Ro’sa first sees her betrothed…

As a figure stepped from the shuttle, Ro’sa gasped at the same time as her friend. The prince. He had to be her betrothed, with the crown of gold on his head reflecting the sunlight. His hair cascaded to his shoulders in dark-brown waves, skin the same rich color of chocolate, her favorite treat from Earth. He wore a finely pressed black suit with a white shirt underneath. His plush cape reached the floor behind him. Pausing on the platform, he smiled, dimples forming in his cheeks.

Thank you, Earth! Excitement bubbled from deep inside her, and something more. She squeezed her thighs together and swallowed her own squeal to keep from giving away their location.

“He’s gorgeous,” Ka’lyn whispered. “Even the color of his skin is sexy. I wonder what he tastes like.”

Ro’sa shoved her friend. “None of your business. He’s mine.”

“And I’m so jealous.” Ka’lyn returned the punch. “I want to lick him from head to toe.”

So did she. “Don’t even think about it. You already have your own man.”

“Yes, but I can dream, can’t I? I mean, I love my sweaty woodsman, but, some days, I wish he was a prince.”

Before Ro’sa had a chance to respond, another man stepped out of the shuttle and slapped the prince’s on the back.

Ka’lyn shifted beside her. “Who’s that?”

“His personal servant?” She’d been told the prince would arrive with his own entourage. “Maybe a friend?” Would a servant be allowed to touch royalty? On Minjet, yes, but she’d been told the line between royalty and commoners was much more defined on Earth. At least before the last war.

“He’s cute, too. A stronger jaw, and look at those full lips. Imagine what they’d be like to kiss, how they’d feel on your breasts and between your legs.”

“Would you stop!” Ro’sa covered her mouth. Her words had come out much louder than she’d intended as she focused on the images her friend had planted in her head.

My First Spanking by Jessica Subject

When asked to be part of Love Spanks, a spanking event last February, I agreed, but told the host that I didn’t write spanking stories. That didn’t matter, so long as I wrote a story that held to the other theme of the event, which was lesbian love. And I did. So, when Anastasia Vitsky asked me to be a part of her next spanking event, Sci Spanks, I decided this time to try my hand at writing a spanking story.

Now, I wasn’t going to jump right in and write one without any knowledge of spanking stories. I had read and wanted to read more stories from spanking fiction authors, some of whom are included in this anthology with me. Most important though, was for me to get the psychology of it correct. I didn’t want to write a story with non-consent. So, I had to have a character who thought they deserved to be spanked. I wanted them in an already established spanking relationship where spanking was just as much about pleasure as it was punishment.

And somehow, I had to get the science fiction aspect in there. But, instead of my usual aliens, I decided to go back to my clones from Made For Her. I set Replicated Consequences in the same world as Made For Her, with human clones created for military use.

I also decided to try something else different. In all of the spanking stories I’d read, it was the male who did the spanking, and most often a female receiving the smacks. I wanted to reverse the roles, having the female give the spanking and the male on the receiving end. And her being in the military was a great way for my heroine to be the more Alpha character.

How does the clone fit in? Well, it turns out my heroine dies during a combat mission. And my hero is given her clone to take care of.

Here’s an excerpt:

***

She spun toward him, pinching her nose. “Did you have a party to celebrate Beth’s death then let everything rot?”

“No!” Celebrate her death? Beth was his life. He still didn’t know how to go on without her.

“Then what happened? How can you live in this filth?”

She set her hands on her hips and raised her eyebrows, tapping her toe.

Just the way his wife used to.

“I….” A lump formed in his throat. “It’s been hard these last two weeks. I’ve had a lot to deal with.”

“I suppose you have.” Her pursed lips offered little sympathy. “But Beth would not accept excuses. She would punish you if she saw this mess.”

Punish. It seemed so long ago she’d last used the paddle on him. Perhaps he’d let their home become a mess, to give her a reason to come back to him. “Yes, she would.”

“Then I will have to do it.”

What Happens Next by Pippa Jay

Because I hate to say goodbye to a character, it often happens that even as I type a virtual ‘The End’ on my stories, a part of me is already asking ‘but what happens next!?’ In the case of Tethered, before I’d even started submitting it an opening scene for a possible sequel (which is still just an idea as yet) had materialized. So especially for you at Literary Lagniappe, I’m going to give you a sneak peek at the ‘what happened next’ after Tethered finished and how the sequel might begin…

Zander stared, his vision blurring as the luminous green script hung in the air before him. Damn, but he’d read this a dozen times and still couldn’t remember the details. And this had to be read, checked and signed off in less than six hours. He sighed and began again.
A pair of hands attached to the ghostly outlines of arms appeared in front of his face, just before covering his eyes.

“Are you coming to bed any time soon?”

Zander chuckled at the sultry voice. “Have I failed to satisfy you enough, ‘Ree?”

The hands vanished—literally—to be replaced by 150lbs of curvaceous, ebony-skinned and decidedly naked Su materializing in his lap.

“Yes, you have. You’ve been gone two whole weeks, and only back in our bed for two hours.”

Zander’s libido jumped to immediate attention, but he restrained his enthusiasm as Tyree kissed him, her mouth full of warm, capprey-flavored promise.

“If the council ever learned that you have regained your Su abilities after all—”

“They’d want me back,” she finished for him. She gazed into his eyes, her face very serious. “They’re not going to find out. And I’m never going back to them in Refuge.”

He stroked her back, an ache in his chest at the thought. “I remember a time when you were very adamant about returning.”

“That was then.” She kissed him again, and his restraint wavered. “This is now.”

“Tyree…” He tried to push some authority into his voice, but it was hard when his body was so fully involved in appreciating her warmth and proximity.

“Take me to bed,” she commanded

“I really need to finish this report.”

“Finish it later.”

His breathing hitched as she wiggled on top of him. “Damn Su,” he whispered. “You know I won’t have the energy later if I let you have your way…”

Book Blurb:

Tethered_200x300kiss. But can assassin Tyree also heal one man’s grief, and bring peace to a galaxy threatened by war?

For Tyree of the Su, being an assassin isn’t simply something she was trained for. It’s the sole reason for her existence. A genetically enhanced clone—one of many in Refuge—she’s about to learn her secluded lifestyle, and that of all her kind, is under threat by a race capable of neutralizing their special talents to leave them defenseless.

For Zander D’joren, being a diplomat has not only cost him his appearance, but also the love of his life. Scarred, grieving, he must nonetheless continue in his role as co-delegate to the fearsome Tier-vane or risk a conflict that could only end one way.

Now both of them need to keep each other alive and maintain a perilous deception long enough to renegotiate the treaty with the Tier-vane, or throw their people into a war that could wipe out Terrans and Inc-Su alike. But there’s more at stake than humanity, whether true or modified. Can the love growing between them save them both? Or merely hasten their destruction?

Something Forbidden Behind the Scenes by J. J. Lore

I’m excited to have the opportunity to reveal some of my ‘behind the scenes’ thoughts that went into a pivotal moment in my new Planet Alpha book, Forbidden. First, let me set up the paragraphs to follow. My heroine, Aura, has been injured by her kidnappers, the villainous Xyran aliens. She’s rescued by Alphan warriors and dropped off at a forward operating medical outpost which is populated entirely by male Alphans in various stages of recovery from battle injuries. The presence of a female is very distracting.

***

As Leo was struggling with how to solve this dilemma, Doctor Welwyn arrived with a worried frown, and Leo’s bondmate, Deklan, in tow. He gave his bondmate a loaded look, which Deklan returned in full. He hadn’t had any opportunity to talk with Deklan since the call had come in and was wondering what the other man thought of the hubbub. He was probably enjoying the break from the routine.

“What is she doing here?” the doctor asked as the men carefully lifted the woman’s limp form onto an empty bed. She didn’t move, and Leo again reached out to check her pulse. Still faster and weaker than it should be.

“They can’t handle these sorts of injuries in the temporary shelter.”

Doctor Welwyn shook his head as he surveyed the damage. “You’re right about that. Deklan, you assist. I’ll need your skills getting that shoulder back in place. Leo, what can we do about?” He made a gesture at the looming soldiers and the rest of the Alphan males in the vicinity who were watching with great interest.

Inspiration struck.

“Men, unfold those sheets and hold them up to make a screen. Backs to the patient, please.” Blank gazes met his for a moment before the men rallied and went to work, the patient soon surrounded by a rustling curtain. He had no doubt the warriors would hold up the fabric until their arms went numb. Leo joined them, glad for a task, as Deklan and the doctor went to work on the wounded woman. There was the sound of rustling cloth, whispered instructions, and then the harsh tear of ripping fabric. As he realized they were cutting away her clothing, his blood rushed through all his veins to his groin. He’d never seen a naked woman before, and judging by the quick glances of the Alphans holding the screen around him, they were just as intrigued.

“Eyes forward,” Leo ordered, both to them and himself. Down, he commanded his hardening staff. It wasn’t honorable to be aroused by someone incapacitated by injury.

He heard the doctor murmur something about slow and steady, and there was the sound of moving bodies, then a high pitched groan. Leo’s spine prickled at the weak, anguished sound, and he couldn’t stop himself from glancing back over his shoulder and seeing both the doctor and Deklan leaning over the woman as they manipulated her shoulder. One of her legs thrashed under the sheet as she cried out for them to stop, but he couldn’t see more of her beyond the barriers of his bondmate’s flexing shoulders. Their solid connection revealed Deklan’s distress at causing her pain, and an undercurrent of professional determination to heal her. Leo sent a calming thought his way and picked up a reassuring reply.

***

I tried to accomplish a lot here. First, I want the reader to get a sense of how professional Leo, one of my heroes, is. He’s also resourceful (witness his quick thinking about the screen), and sympathetic to those who are suffering. All of these Alphans are working together to help someone and I think that’s an important trait in their culture. Even though they are warriors, they recognize their responsibility to those who are in distress. The reader gets a hint of the emotional ties between Deklan and Leo who are bondmates, which is the tradition of males finding a partner in fighting, training, as well as life. And finally, I had to throw in some sexual tension. These guys have never seen a human woman and it’s only natural they are intrigued.

I hope you liked this glimpse of what whet on in my mind when I was writing Forbidden.

Book Blurb:

forbidden

Working to heal wounded Alphan warriors is the new duty of bondmates Leo and Deklan. Although recovered from severe injuries received on the field of battle, they are no longer fit to fight. Their orderly, all-male existence is turned upside down when an injured human female becomes their new responsibility.

Aura Tremain wakes up in an alien hospital, healing from a beating delivered by the scaly Xyrans who’d kidnapped her. Upon her discharge, two handsome Alphan men offer her refuge until she’s well enough to travel.

Even though Leo and Deklan know they will never be permitted to bond with Aura as their souls demand, they can’t ignore the desire she stirs in them. Her time with them is short, but so intense. Will the intimacies they share be strong enough to withstand the expectation that bondmates are for battle-worthy warriors? Can their passion bind the three of them forever?
