More manga please! by Eva Lefoy

More manga please!

I sometimes wonder, why isn’t there more really meaty manga romance out there? I realize the manga style originated in Japan but I find myself wanting different storylines that are more like the books I usually read. I want more romance manga for U.S. readers’ tastes, and here’s why I think it’s a good idea.

First, being a former comic book collector – ah yes, I owned a lot of the original Akira series, Lone Wolf and Cub, the Watchmen, Batman: The Dark Knight, The Joker, Electra Assassin, even some Swamp Thing, Cerebus and Sandman, and much more – I’ve seen first-hand how so many of these stories get turned into movies. Like hugely popular action films. Which proves movie execs, like readers are always looking for new stories and it seems….

The more paranormal or dark the storyline is the better!

So, secondly, comics and manga seem to lend themselves naturally to paranormal & UF type works. What are the most popular romance genres today? Only sales figures will tell, but I’m guessing paranormal is at the top of the list. Which begs the question, why isn’t PNR magna flooding the market?

Perhaps someone will write some soon!

In the meantime, I’ll keep supplementing my reading diet with Fruits Basket, yaoi and Supernatural. Yeah, the last one isn’t a romance at all, but hey, the eye candy is worth the watch!

More power to the manga,

Excerpt from Unburied Hatchet, part of Sexy to Go Volume #6:

Next to her, Snake hit the turf with a thump and changed quickly. When complete, he growled, then looked up at her as if waiting for her to join him.

Good lord, was she really going to do this? Become an animal, like them? She fought the tingling sensation rolling up her spine with all her might, determined to hang onto her humanity, and deathly afraid of what the change would bring. She’d only had mere months to get used to the idea she harbored a wolf’s soul inside. Having the physical reality of it thrust upon her – by her father – made the situation even more desperate. She had to stop this – stop it at once!

But Conri’s force allowed no compromise. He watched her struggle, saw her resistance and offered only one more command. “Now.”

She dropped to the ground clumsily, her body tired and her spirit uncertain. Letting go wasn’t in her rule book. Trusting a father who’d abandoned her long ago wasn’t either. But beside her, Snake licked her shoulder, assuring her of his protection. Gritting her teeth, she closed her eyes and slipped into a darkness reserved for monsters from fairy tales. From deep inside, she heard a scream. The sound seemed to shake and tear her limbs apart, rearranging them until everything she knew of herself was gone. Then, like a whip crack, her new body snapped into place. She opened her eyes.

Before her stood a giant black wolf, solid as rock through the shoulders, its eyes an eerie gray. They shone with approval, with wildness, with expectation.

In her body, she sensed Conri’s non-verbal message. Run, daughter. Let’s run.

The Real Ins and Outs of Throes of Passion by Juliet Chastain

Hi there, I’m Juliet Chastain, author of sweetly sexy short romances. I should say, that’s the kind of writer I was because of late I’ve been doing something a little different. I’ve been writing erotica plain and simple—low on plot high on super steamy sex. Perfect for quick bedtime reads.

On the rare occasions that I admit to people that I write erotica, they often look at me funny, obviously imagining me in the throes of passion as I work at my computer. Some come right out and ask me if I enjoy or “get off ” writing the sex scene.

Here are the facts about writing long, hot, sex scenes. Yes, it’s fun to write, but it’s also hard—and, sorry to say, quite anaphrodisiac. You have to keep close track of who and what is where as well as when which bit can do what to whom during every second of an encounter. So by the time you’ve figured out whose right hand is doing what—or wait is it the left hand in that position? And can he—or she—get it out from underneath, or is pretty much trapped there? If someone rolls slightly so another someone can get his or her hand out won’t that disturb what somebody’s lips are busy with? You get the idea. Details, details spoil the writer’s fun.

Writing erotica may not allow for passionate throes on the part of the author while she’s actually writing it, but it certainly does for the characters. And I’ll admit, once I’ve finished, reading it to the man in my life, it can be, er, very rewarding.

My first purely erotic short story, is releasing January 16. It’s called The Intruder. If readers like it, I’ll write a whole lot more. So please let me know what you think ( a bunch more or one’s enough? Next month it’s BDSM time with Miss V’s shocking adventures in the Kink Inc. series. In between those releases, toward the end of January, Making Music, a sweet and sexy story will come out.

Here’s a very simple example—when the couple isn’t even tangled up yet. When I first wrote it I imagined her throwing her head back in ecstacy. Then I remembered he’s got her pushed up against the wall—no room for that move.

“You want me, don’t you?” And he presses his body against mine. He smells like leather and spice. “You are my prisoner now. My victim.” His voice is deep, menacing. “No one knows I’m here. There is no one to rescue you. It’s what you wanted, isn’t it?”

“No,” I lie, “please….” I move my head from side to side, trying to avoid his fierce gaze. Heated desire leaps up within me, spreading through my body, my thighs, my pussy, my belly, my breasts.

The Intruder 200x300 (1)

She knew he watched her though the window, now he’s coming to make her scorching fantasies about him very, very real.

The man from across the way comes calling. She is ready to tantalize and submit.  Will he give her everything she craves? Let the night games begin.

Five Things You Didn’t Know About A Chris-mas Miracle by Nikka Michaels

My latest story from Evernight Publishing’s Romance On the Go line, A Chris-mas Miracle, is out now!

I’m a total sucker for holiday tales and Christmas stories in particular. The holidays can be a time of the year when people think most about their family and miss home. Drew is an American exchange student studying in Newcastle, Australia, thousands of miles away from his home. Chris is his co-worker, best friend and confidant. From experience, we all know being away from your family during this time of the year can be lonely. Even though Drew is far from home, Chris makes sure he’s not alone during this Christmas.

Today I thought I’d share a few things you might not know about Drew and Chris’ story:

  1. Newcastle, New South Wales is a real city. With beautiful surf beaches, it’s a college town but full of awesome people, tasty beer and busy nightlife.
  2. Drop In, the backpacker’s hostel is based on a real place. It was one of the first places I stayed at after a twenty-something hour plane ride and another two hour-long train trip north from Sydney.
  3. Drew’s little brother Petey is ten years old.
  4. Chris’ favorite book is Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea.
  5. Clubbies are Surf Lifesavers. Surf Lifesavers are voluntary lifeguards and it also is a competitive sport for many people.

Thanks for joining me today and to Literary Lagniappe for having me!

The Dream Cast for Sexy Suitors from Space by Paisley Brown

SSfS blog tour button

While writing Sexy Suitors from Space, I always had Chris Hemsworth in mind as my inspiration for Erich, one of the sexy aliens from the story who lives up in Finland, beyond the Arctic Circle. Here’s the description of him from the story:

I stared into his crystal-blue eyes, surprised by the stranger yet again. He’d removed his scarf and hood, revealing Thor-like features. My clit pulsed, alive for the first time in months. The doppelganger of the only superhero who’d ever turned me on stood less than a foot away, holding my upper arms. I’d give anything to run my hands through his wavy blond hair, kiss along the firm jaw covered with golden stubble, nip at his full lips.

And when Heather (the MC) is trying to learn his name, she and Erich joke about Thor and Chris Hemsworth.

We trekked on without another word, but the silence drove me crazy I wanted to know more about the guy, what made him tick, and how to get him in my bed. First things first. “Hey, what’s your name? Thor, maybe?”

He paused and looked back at me, humor in his eyes. “Thor was the name of my father. Though many say I resemble the Thor you Americans watch in movies. But the man who plays him comes from Australia.” He spread his arms out. “He could never handle this much snow.”

I smiled at his deep chuckle. God, I want him. “So, what is your name?”

“Ay-rik.” He bowed, one hand out and the other holding his chest. “Spelled E-R-I-C-H.”

“Erich, I like it. Now I know what to call you in my fantasies.”

As for Erich’s brother Alek, he is literally a darker version of Chris Hemsworth. No, not like Liam or Luke. An exact replica of Chris, but with darker and shorter hair. I’m sure Chris could play two characters in a movie. He wouldn’t be the first actor to do it. Though that might be difficult during the scenes with intercourse. Meet Alek:

A throat cleared behind me.

Spinning around in my chair, I came face-to-groin with a bear, or rather, a large man dressed entirely in black. Curly, dark locks hung across his forehead and black stubble highlighted his hard jawline. But it was his blue eyes that drew my attention. He’s not Erich, but they sure grow them big and sexy around here.

“Ms. Chambers?”

All the women around me cackled as he said my name. “She’s Glenda’s granddaughter,” they whispered. As if that meant something.

I nodded at the man, curiosity shoving away all my dreariness.

“I’m Alek, Erich’s brother.” His voice was even deeper than his brother’s, with a heavier accent. “He asked me to escort you to the sauna when you are finished with your meal.”

As for the main character, Heather, I imagined myself in her position while writing the story. Why not? *wink* But, if I had to pick, I would choose Kate Beckinsale.

No Surprises by Sara Brookes

I have a confession.

Come closer. Just a little bit closer. I don’t want to yell it.

I don’t like surprises.

There I said it.

I want to know exactly what’s going on. At all times. Problem is, sometimes my characters like to keep secrets from me. Me! How rude.

A perfect example is my contemporary erotic romance, Ragged Edge. When I started writing the book, I had a kernel of an idea. I knew the two main characters would be Erin and Dalton. They’d meet when Dalton hires Erin to design a new sign for his bike shop. As the two get closer, Erin learns Dalton was once heavily into BDSM. She confesses she had an interest, but would like to try. He agrees. They fall in love during their journey and that’s all she wrote.

Only, it wasn’t.

When I sat down to actually write the story, the opening chapter was a sex scene – between Dalton and another man. EXCUSE ME!?!?!? See, apparently, Dalton had forgotten to tell me a little bit of information about the relationship he was keeping secret with the town sheriff, Cade.

Suddenly, I was writing a romance involving three people. A ménage. I should probably mention, at this point, I’d never written a ménage of this kind before. Where all three people basically had a free for all when it came to sex? I mean I know Slot A and Tab B but…now I had a Tab C. Surely I’m off my rocker, ‘cause I’ve got no feckin’ clue what to do.

So, I pushed through as best as I could and 90K words later, I’d figured out how to make all those extra body parts work juuuuust fine. ;^)

Dalton is no stranger to hitting rock bottom. He’s worked hard to turn his life around. Now he has a quiet life, a successful business and a no-strings-attached arrangement for sex with Kincade. Everything is just as it should be. Then a late-night rendezvous is interrupted by a sexy newcomer, and Dalton realizes something is missing.

Caught up in the intense passion the men share, Erin finds herself fighting her desire to run or to get between these two hard bodies. She’s convinced her attraction is wrong. However, a little persuasion from both Dalton and Cade convinces her she belongs with and between them.

Erin’s surrender becomes Dalton’s reawakening. A BDSM master, Dalton is in his element wielding command, and soon the threesome fill their nights with mind-blowing pleasure. But when a piece of Dalton’s past resurfaces, it threatens the very foundation he’s built and could put him back at the bottom.

Warning: Contains gay sex on the seat of a motorcycle with the town sheriff, a mind-bending trip into subspace, voyeuristic blow jobs, two subs who willingly kneel before their master and lots and lots of ménage sex in a secret room tucked away behind a motorcycle shop. Vroom, vroom.

GIVEAWAY: Do you like the unexpected? Or like to know exactly what is coming your way? Tell me and I’ll draw the name of one lucky winner to receive an ecopy of Ragged Edge! Contest ends 11/28 at 11:59PM EST

New Release Announcement List:

Rendezvous by Taryn Kincaid

Blizzard, my new very short, very HOT story for Decadent Publishing’s The Edge erotica line actually began to pop into my head during a couple of long drives on the New York State Thruway, one on a gorgeous Indian summer fall day when the highway was alive in spectacular fall color and the rest stops were dotted with farmer’s markets featuring apples and corn and tomatoes and all sorts of breads. And one in absolutely terrifying weather.

These days my car radio is most often tuned to news channels. But as soon as I’m out of the metropolitan area radio frequency, I pop in the Bruce CDs. There is no one better to drive to than Bruce. Thunder Road. Born to Run. Backstreets. Racing in the Street. Out in the Street. Pink Cadillac. And zillions more. These are car songs. I tend to put pedal to the metal when they’re are on.
But it’s the slow ballads that give me the chills. And some of the romantic rockers, too. My drive-fantasy playlist:
1. Because the Night
2. Drive All Night
3. I’m On Fire
4. Fire

And for BLIZZARD…it’s Rendezvous.

Mandy Malone ditches her pharmaceutical convention and the married male colleagues hitting on her to hurry home to her waiting family. But she doesn’t bank on the blizzard that forces her off the road and into a deserted rest stop. When she meets another road refugee, their attraction is immediate and molten hot. Suddenly, getting stranded doesn’t seem like such bad luck after all.

Although totally unprepared for Mandy’s unvarnished proposition, Jack is intrigued by the erotic offer of a promising night of no-questions-asked sex. But when he notices the wedding band on Mandy’s finger, will he forego the lure of a torrid clandestine affair, or give in to the fantasy of blazing hot sex on a wintry night?

She rooted around in her handbag again, on the off chance she’d missed something useful to her current situation.

“Is this what you’re looking for, lady?”

Mandy glanced up, startled by the deep, rumbling baritone that echoed loudly in the fairly quiet building. And even more startled by the tall, gorgeous hunk of manhood bundled into a down parka standing next to her table.

I could totally jump him. Right here. Right now.

From nowhere, steamy erotic images of what she wanted to do with the man leaped unbidden into her head. She’d never felt such instant attraction to anyone, such a frantic desire. Maybe it was a reaction to her frightening experience on the Thruway. Or maybe something else created the overpowering chemistry.

Besides being the most handsome man she’d ever laid eyes on, he held out a battery-operated pocket charger. A sigh escaped her as he stared down at her.

“It’s not the only thing I’m looking for.” Her voice, husky and sultry, and laden with blatant sexual innuendo, shocked her. Where had those words come from? Nearly alone with him in the deserted rest stop…and still she felt…safe.

“Yeah?” The man removed his parka, revealing a plaid flannel shirt, the triangle of a white, cold-weather T-shirt peeping from the open neckline. When he raised his arms, thick bands of muscle rippled across his chest, beneath the layers of fabric. He riveted her with brilliant azure eyes, bluer than a lake under the summer’s sun. His hair, which curled a bit boyishly at his temples, resembled a wet beach, light, dirty brown, with shimmering bronze threads straggling through the locks. But this was no boy. No, indeed.

God. Gorgeous did not even begin to cover it. The longer he looked at her, the hotter she became. So hot she suddenly felt she’d do anything, dare anything with this man.
