Shades of Desire by Chanta Rand

And now, for a very special sneak peek into Courtroom Number 301…

Judge Grace Burroughs sat perched high on the bench of Courtroom Number 301. The state seal and the words “in God we Trust” were etched on an over-sized, gold plaque behind her. Cayson surreptitiously glanced at her from where he stood at the counselor’s table. God, he trusted, but this woman—not so much. She had a pointed chin, stern mouth, and eyes resembling cold balls of steel. To the legal world, she was known as “Barracuda.” Beneath the black robes, Cayson knew her as Gracie. That was the name she’d insisted he call her in bed. He’d paid dearly for the one-night stand he’d had with her five years ago when she was a wily prosecutor and he was fresh out of law school.

Not his finest conquest, but hell, that’s what drinking a fifth of Johnnie Walker could do to a man. He was wasted the next day, but he wasn’t too drunk to remember Gracie’s performance in bed. She wasn’t his type. Too sterile. Too bossy. Too conservative for his tastes. Definitely not worth sampling seconds. He never contacted her again after that night. He’d permanently sealed his doom by sleeping with a friend of hers the next day. He was young and brash and stupid back then. But Gracie had never forgiven him.

You’ve just read an excerpt from my interracial erotic romance, Resisting Destiny. This steamy tale is part of the SHADES OF DESIRE bundle, featuring 10 authors writing 10 sweet & spicy romances. From kinky bedpost love to a sweet first kiss, SHADES OF DESIRE has something for everyone. And it’s only 99 cents for a limited time!

In Resisting Destiny, Cayson goes out of his way to avoid the notoriously vindictive Judge Burroughs. But we know not all judges are bad. My question: What’s your favorite TV show involving a judge or a court of law? It could be a current show or one that aired anytime in the past. I want to know the name of the show and why you liked it so much. Every person who leaves a comment will have their name placed into a draw for a chance to win $5 Starbucks gift card. So, what are you waiting for?

Book Blurb:

Thrown together by a spiteful judge, womanizing attorney, Cayson Sullivan, is appointed Destiny Jackson’s guardian for ninety days. Taking care of the street-smart hustler proves no easy task, especially since she comes with a cast of characters that continually push his buttons. The two soon find that despite their backgrounds being as different as night and day, their attraction to each other is the one thing they can agree upon. Can a week in the Maldive Islands convince Cayson that he’s finally met his match? Or will he be too busy Resisting Destiny?

  1. I am TOTALLY dating myself here, but I absolutely LOVE/D Matlock! No matter how hopeless it seemed for his (hopefully?) innocent client, he just kept plugging along to get to the truth in his southern, penny-pinching gentlemanly way. Throw in the sidekicks – his girlfriend who was the opposing DA, his daughter with her wry sense of humor and the private detectives, Matlock created a sense of family within the courthouse.

More recently? Found “Bad Judge” to be HYSTERICAL. Wouldn’t you want a hippie throwback, commitment phobe judge to hear YOUR case?

    • I’m a Matlock fan too. He was patient and tenacious. And I loved his white suit. It’s iconic. In the AMC show, Better Call Saul, the character Jimmy McGill starts wearing a white suit like Matlock’s to get people to trust him. Hilarious!

  2. Thanks so much for hanging out with us today, Chanta!

  3. I love the original Law and Order. I was hooked from the first episode and I loved seeing a black woman in a power position.

    • Jennifer, I love Law and Order too. Now, SVU is a little scary to me, but I handle the regular one. I’ve never seen such unusual cases!

    • Thanks JA! I think readers will really enjoy this box set. There’s something for everyone in Shades of Desire.

  5. I love CSI Cyber. It is a great show and very modern. I also was a huge fan of Silk Stalkings many years ago. Chris and Rita were my favorite detectives..

    • Milissa, I totally forgot about Silk Stalkings. You’re right: That was such a great show. I wouldn’t mind if they put that on TV again.

  6. Reblogged this on chantarandblog.

  7. I love Law and Order, we were out of the country for 6 years and got hooked on L&O, now we watch all the reruns as we still see ones that we missed. My favorite Judge is Judy. She is funny, down to earth and doesn’t hold back. She was a family judge for 25 years so nothing gets by her.

    • Sorry Laurel. I’m just now seeing this. Yes, I love Judge Judy as well. I would definitely NOT want to be in her courtroom. She’s so intimidating!
