Kinky Geeks? by Bronwyn Green

I know a lot of people, upon hearing the word “geek”, immediately think of Comic Book Guy form The Simpsons or maybe the guys from Big Bang Theory. So often when we see very specific stereotypes portrayed—the guy who lives in his parents’ basement, the guys or girls who can’t get a date because they’re so hopelessly awkward, the people who spend more time learning the Klingon language than they do on their class homework – granted, that guy exists – my husband totally roomed with him in college. But these characters as portrayed in the media are fairly one-dimensional, and they’re often used as a running joke in books and movies. And, I’ll admit, it’s pretty hard to think kinky geek when those are the images that pop into your head.

But, I know plenty of real life geeks who don’t fit those stereotypes at all – most of my friends, my siblings, my husband and kids…me. In Drawn That Way, I wanted to illustrate a more realistic geek—someone who’s more like the people in my life. The hero, Rory Brecken, really is a geek. He’s a concept artist for the gaming company he owns, and yes, in addition to video games and all they entail, he likes things like Doctor Who, Star Wars, Buffy, and Harry Potter.

In my head, Rory looks a lot like Hugh Dancy – particularly Hugh Dancy playing Will Graham in Hannibal. Sigh.

Rory

Sorry. Got distracted. Anyway, he’s cute, and he’s very good at his job but he’s a little awkward, a little socially inept, and he’s not at all what Tristan is looking for—until she discovers his hidden, kinky depths. And even then, she only wants a good time. Rory, however, has other plans.

Excerpt:

She wasn’t sure if it was fear of what was about to happen or the need to push him to find out what would happen if she didn’t obey. Judging from the expression on his face, she wouldn’t have long to wait to learn the consequences.

He crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you ready to use your safeword?”

She shook her head.

“You realize there are penalties for not following orders, right?”

“Yes.” She barely recognized her own voice. It was embarrassingly breathy.

He sprawled in his desk chair, legs spread, and an impossibly huge looking bulge pressing against his fly. “Then, I suggest you get over here before your punishment gets worse.”

Excitement battered her stomach as she forced herself to take a step forward. And another. And another. Until she finally stood in front of his desk and was about to sit on it.

He shook his head. “You didn’t follow directions.”

“I’m sorry.”

“That’s nice.” He stared at her, his eyes hard, and his jaw tight. Waves of tension rolled off his body. “But it doesn’t fix things, does it?”

Book Blurb:

Drawn that way Tristan Weaver, accountant for a successful video game company, is in way over her head. Honestly answering a company-wide survey and criticizing the sexist stereotypes used in the company’s games was enough to catch her boss’ attention.  But speculating on his sex life within his earshot has unexpected consequences when her hot, but nerdy, boss invites her to model for him.

Owner, artist and lead developer of Brecken Games, Rory Brecken, has a strict no fraternizing with employees rule. However, when he overhears Tristan’s conversation with her friend about his rumored kinks and begins to suspect her curiosity about the submissive side of sex, he’s more than a little tempted. When her interest is undeniably confirmed, he suggests a onetime only, colleagues-with-benefits hook-up.

Though neither want a relationship, once isn’t enough for either one of them. As their encounters become more intense, Rory makes a huge mistake that may cost him the woman he’s coming to love.

  1. Thanks so much for hanging out with us today, Bronwyn!

  2. Being a geek myself, I love to read about other geeks. Geeks have become accepted and cherished. Add kinky and wow., and you have an amazing story.

  3. great premiss! looking forward to reading it! planning on recommending it to my gamer girls!

  4. I cannot wait to read this! 🙂

  5. I so much love this book!! Rory is beyond hot. Awesome read, Bron

  6. Geek really has become stereotyped. Time to change that.

  7. I know what you mean about geeks no longer being… well, geeky. The other day our dogs were being evaluated for training, and the trainer looked like he’d just come off the recruiting poster. He’d been in the Army and then was a K9 handler. This guy was STACKED and when I said something about my kids being geeks, he piped up with, “I’m a geek, too!” Yup, NOT what a “stereotypical” geek would look like, and it just proved that nowadays there isn’t as great a stigma from claiming the geek label. So a “Kinky Geek” as a male lead in a book? Bring ‘im on! To me, a kinky geek would just be even MORE “fun”, ’cause let’s face it — those are the guys who probably are better at thinking outside of the box, so any interactions would be VERY interesting [wink] LOL! As a Geek’s wife – thanks for showing that these guys aren’t just squeaky voiced, pencil necked paper pushers!

    • High-five to my fellow wife of a geek! 😀 I agree, the stigma is definitely (and happily) on the way out. I enjoyed writing Rory so much, I think I’ll have to write another kinky geek in the near future. 😀

  8. Thank you!!! I can’t wait to read it!
