Writing About Something I Love by Kacey Hammell

I don’t know about other authors, but for me, I love writing elements in my stories that I love personally. I’m addicted to cop shows, so I have a series about the cops (and friends) in the same precinct. In another series, the bed and breakfast mentioned is a place my hubs and I have loved spending time at, and in many of my stories, my addiction for coffee shines through.

With my “Revved and Ready Series”, I especially enjoyed writing about another obsession of mine — Mustangs. And I admit, it’s an EPIC obsession. I will visit car dealerships sometimes just to take a look the latest models, and attend car shows to drool over the older and classic ones – the best ones!! I’ve been in love with Mustangs since I was a kid and went to a lot of car shows with my Dad who was also an avid classic car enthusiast.

With writing 69 Mustang & Mustang Maddy, the common thread of course is the Mustangs, but it’s also bringing characters together who can’t seem to get out of their own way and grab onto what they want. In many ways, it’s the same for me with buying my own Mustang. I would love to own one but am “in my own way” – the logical mother and wife who puts others (and our finances) first. I can’t foresee a ’69 Mustang in my garage anytime soon, considering my budget doesn’t include having the Mustang to drive in the summer and something else in the winter. It pains me to be so logical! LOL

So, I live vicariously through my characters in the Revved and Ready Series and enjoy the hell out of featuring Mustangs in each story. Call it being selfish or a flight of fancy, but hey, I’m an author who writes Fiction … I can write about whatever I want to, right? *g*
And from the letters I’ve received from my readers, they seem to enjoy the Mustangs too!

Happy Reading!

  1. Kacey – I come from a Ford family, so no matter the dream car, you can guarantee it comes from Ford LOL! Apparently the Ford gene was passed through to some of the grandsons; my nephew did car building/racing with his college team and if it says Ford, or even better yet, MUSTANG on it, one of my twinagers is wearing it. (Makes shirt buying easy !!) Yup, the joke in our family is that Grandpa isn’t allowed to die until Twinager #2 gets the chance to utilize his retiree discount. (Yes, I know we have a twisted sense of humor. Works for us.) But seriously – there’s just something about a muscle car, isn’t there? In our house there’s always Top Gear & Top Gear America on the DVR, and I must admit that Richard Rawlings from Fast & Loud could easily star in some of my fantasies… LOL! (Now you know why I humor the child with his obsession!!)

  2. Thanks for hanging out with us today, Kacey!

  3. We had many cars as my father loved cars. At one time he had a midget Mg and a midget Jag but my favorite was the 57 T Bird and I still dream about having it. Now it’s a classic car.

  4. Here’s a little sumpin’ for ya, Mustang Kacey! My sings cars like nobody’s biz.
