Living in the Wild, Wild West by K.E. Shade

While I love the glamorization of the early stages in taming the west represented in movies, the dirt and grit of what it actually took to survive never really is shown to the fullest extent. In some ways, I understand that aspect. No one wants to see a film—unless it’s a documentary—on how a town in the middle of nowhere was formed. Stage coaches and supplies had many dangers to overcome just to make it to their destination. That didn’t always include the occasional rattlesnake or indigenous people. The human race as a whole has a darker side.

When I created An Outlaw in Her Bed, I watched the story morph into something showing that dirt and grit. At first, Ella was nothing but a simple rancher’s wife. However, she became something more and her past wasn’t too pristine. The stranger in her barn wants the salvation she found when her husband rescued her. I like redemption in a story.

Before An Outlaw in Her Bed, I had never attempted a western. My portfolio has anything from historical to fantasy in it as I don’t like being tied down to one type of story setting. Besides, as kooky as Hollywood movies can be, I still love watching an old western. It’s the action that gets me. Heart pounding gun fights, verbal sparring—all a nice interlude to bring the characters together.

I also had an adventure in researching not only the types of guns but the flora and fauna. Plus there’s the difference in speech to how we speak in modern times. My editor has a fit at me using the word “ain’t” until I showed her proof of just how old that word is. The spelling has twisted over the centuries but it’s still there. An authentic setting is key.

I want to write more, for sue, when my muse stops spitting out a million ideas for paranormal, fantasy, or historical men in kilts. Rawr. A writer’s head is a dangerous place.
Book Blurb:

She takes him in until he’s able to move on, but never expects the attraction to blossom between them.
