My inspiration for writing Christmas themed stories… by Krista Ames

Since I have a Christmas story releasing tomorrow from Roane Publishing called Harper’s Wish, I thought it fitting to talk about writing inspiration and how I’ve spent the last two months.

Writing….editing…more editing…reading….and more editing.

Sometimes it’s hard for me to get into the Christmas mood that far ahead of Christmas.  I mean I was writing this before Halloween and with 4 kids to keep me in check, I couldn’t focus on Christmas out of order as far as decorations were concerned.  So….for inspiration, I opened up the Christmas vault.  Yep you guessed it, I got into the secret stash of Christmas DVD’s J

Now we’re not talking 30 minute SpongeBob cartoons (and yes we have those too lol).  I mean movies that make you laugh your ass off like Jingle All the Way when Arnold Schwarzenegger and Phil Hartman start a war over a kid’s action figure.  And who wouldn’t get humor over and over again from of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation huh?

Then of course there are the oldies but goodies that make you feel all nostalgic and really get you into those Christmas memories from your childhood like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas or the old fashioned The Grinch who stole Christmas(so much better than the newer version).

I think my favorites though, are the ones that make me cry.  The ones that touch that romantic corner of my heart.  Know what I mean? For instance, how about Jack Frost, where the little boy loses his dad in a car accident during winter but he comes back as a talking snowman in his own front yard?

My absolute, all-time favorites though…are the ones recorded on my DVR from the Hallmark Channel.  When they started coming on last year, I recorded every one that I could.  I think my favorite is a made-for-TV movie called Let It Snow.  It’s seriously the stuff Romance books are made of!

So there you have it, oh and I’m in love with a song that Michael Buble` sings called All I Want for Christmas Is You.  I play (and sing) it over and over J  I also love to look at the cover of his CD lol.

So, all of this was the inspiration that kept me going to create Harper’s Wish, A Montana Series Christmas Novella releasing tomorrow from Roane Publishing.  Let me tell you a little about it.

Blurb:

Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time of year, but for Harper Donaldson it’s just another day.  Orphaned at an early age, she doesn’t have a single good memory of Christmas.

But, when a Santa’s Mailbox mysteriously appears in the lobby of the post office where she works as postmistress, Harper wonders what it could hurt to send her own letter to Santa.

Could he bring her the family she’d always wanted?

You can find Harper’s Wish at Roane Publishing and other retailers like Amazon starting tomorrow.

You can find me on my blog, A Passion for Romance or my webpage, Krista Ames.

  1. Christmas Vacation is the best. I like Frosty the Snowman, too. But my all time favorite is Miracle on 34th Street (the original). Nothing beats Natalie Wood and Maureen O’Hara.

    Congratulations on the release!

  2. Thanks for hanging out with us today, Krista!

  3. The fav movie in my family was Christmas Vacation because it was not as crazy as our Christmases.

  4. I love Lifetime Christmas movies, going to look at the lights drinking hot chocolate with my kids!!!
