Haven’s Soundtrack By Celia Breslin

No doubt about it, music feeds my Muse.

For HAVEN, she required daily doses of industrial rock, techno (big beat and minimal), electro, breakbeat, and house. Sounds loud, right? Well, Haven IS a dance club. *grins* And my Muse likes to shake it on the virtual dance floor.

Muse required techno and house music to paint club scenes, hard-driving big beat techno and breakbeat for action sequences, and a little industrial rock for the scenes in between. Of course, she also demanded silence from time to time, to listen to the winds snap around my house, swirling fog over my roof and the nearby hills… And poignant moments required a softer, gentler type of tune…

Haven’s Playlist:

* Industrial rock – Nine Inch Nails (NIN) – The Fragile, With Teeth

* Big beat techno – The Prodigy – Music for the Jilted Generation, The Fat of the Land, Invaders Must Die

* Minimal techno – Justin Maxwell, John Tejada

* Electro – Bass Kittens – Inside the Electron

* Electro – Volsoc – Compuphonic

* Breakbeat – Bass Kittens – Four Things I Hate About You

* Breakbeat – Meat Beat Manifesto – Actual Sounds and Voices, Satyricon

* House – DJs Stacy Burket and Steve Lawler

* Kate Bush – The Sensual World

About the Book:

Genre – Urban Fantasy Romance

Publisher – Champagne Books

Date of Publication – July 2, 2013

San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli works hard, plays hard, and never allows the death of her parents and her twelve-year memory gap to get her down. But her life takes a left turn when a witch attacks her on her twenty-fifth birthday.

Three hauntingly familiar vampires emerge to reveal she possesses a latent power. To protect her from their enemies, they admit to wiping her memories clean and abandoning her as a child, but now they need her help. As she struggles to evade her new protectors and even newer enemies, she meets Alexander, an enigmatic, undead musician. Insta-lust flares, leaving her wanting more.

With evil’s minions hounding her every move, and everything she thought she knew turned on its head, Carina must harness her burgeoning power, unravel her vampire family’s web of deceit, and fight to have a love life…without getting killed in the process.

Talk time was over. We stared. And stared. And stared some more.

His smoky blue eyes bled to black and his power pushed at me, hot and hard, causing a response inside me, like a rumbling volcano deep in my core. My eyes widened. Was this the power my family had mentioned? No longer dormant and infinitely more intense than a little static electricity in my palms.

Alexander crushed his lips to mine. Need roared through me leaving me breathless with edgy hunger.

My hands burrowed into his thick, silky hair, holding his head as if he might try to escape. He growled his approval against my lips, his kiss growing more insistent. His tongue explored my mouth. He tasted metallic, like the blood he’d consumed. Again, I found I liked the taste. My tongue danced with his and delved into his mouth, searching for more penny metal flavor. He groaned and tightened his embrace.

I thought we’d devour each other forever, but Alexander stiffened and his head snapped up. His eyes glinted black as night, wild with lust and…aggression? He bared his teeth in a snarl, canines morphing into fangs.

  2. Hi Lisa and Emily! I’m always happy to talk music. Thanks for having me (and the vampires!) over for a visit. 🙂

  4. Right now it’s Mozart. Such beauty. Mostly I like the quiet though.

  5. Great Playlist! My muse loves music, too. I heard a song by Mumford and Sons a while back and Boo the muse said “Hey, that’s Anton music! (Anton being the hero of my WIP) Then I had to download the whole album and I’ve been listening every time I need to ‘get in the mood’ to work on WIP

    • Hi Ute!
My muse acts the same way — she insists I listen to certain songs/albums repeatedly. For my current WiP, she’s very keen on “Is Your Love Strong Enough” (How to Destroy Angels version), and some tracks by Marina and the Diamonds and Santigold.

  6. I love the playlist, seems like your choices really fit the tone of what you were writing! Thanks for sharing…

  7. My paranormal muse likes classic rock, especially Led Zepplin’s Kashmir – the opening bars heighten anticipation of the forbidden & desirable.

  8. Hi Veronica,
Thanks for visiting! Glad you enjoyed the playlist. 🙂

  9. Don’t put me in for an ebook. I’ve already read it. It’s one of the best new stories I’ve read in a long time. Great plot and characters that are set up for a long series run. Looking forward to the next one. Don’t recognize most of the music. I’m a classic hard rock, classical music, and bagpipes lover. Rita

  10. I love love love music all day long everyday!! I dance to it, sing to it, clean and drive…If there isn’t music playing I sing to myself and make up words LOL

  12. I’ve been browsing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours.
It’s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good
content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.
