BOTTOMS UP!

Yeah, yeah. Get your minds (and other body parts) out of the gutter. We’re talking glass bottoms here, not curvaceous or rock solid, hard-body, um, tushies. (Although, actually, we can talk those, if you like.)

Two things tantalize me about some of the Literary Lagniappe posts, especially those “fillers” by Lisa Fox.  Goes without same that the first is the man-candy photos Lisa finds and offers up for our delectation. The other is the copious amounts of alcohol!

Currently, I’m on a rather strict diet, with sugar and non-veg carbs not in my wheelhouse. This means certain fun-and-fruity beverages with tiny paper umbrellas and plastic-monkey swizzlers and the like.

But hey, it’s summer.  And I always like to live vicariously.  So…in the spirits (get it? My editor would kill me for that one) of things, party hearty, my lovelies. (Or is that “hardy”? I’m never quite sure.)

Here’s a little snippet (don’t tell anyone—it’s not the “official” excerpt you may have been seeing all over the place) from HEAT WAVE, my latest Sleepy Hollow 1Night Stand for Decadent Publishing, to get you in the mood:

 heatwave

Glass to lips. Another inch or so of the scotch sliding down his gullet, fueling rather than easing the fire within. Devil take his soul and hers. He wanted to spring across the parlor and pounce on her. Instead, he inhaled a few calming breaths. Long. Slow. In. Out. The pattern reminded him too much of the mechanism of fucking. Stifling a groan, he counted to ten. To twenty. If he never went through breedspawn again, unmatched and unbonded, it would be too soon. The heat waves consuming him nearly had him flinging himself to the floor and fucking the fluff out of the carpet to keep from attacking Zena.

Suck. It. Up. Raines. Get. It. Together.

“Max keeps the good stuff,” he managed at last, his voice low, graveled, whiskey-raw. “And I need it tonight.”

You do? I think I’m the one who needs it tonight.”

“What’s your pleasure?” He grimly repeated the challenge she’d issued to him in the club, but she failed to snap at the bait.

“Nothing there with umbrellas and fruit? I suddenly feel the need for a vacay in Tahiti. Maybe Bora Bora. Wouldn’t you rather take me to sunny Polynesia than Duyvil Tand?”

“I can’t do pineapples and coconuts for you, princess. Whether I want to or not.”

“Do you want to?” she murmured, her words a mere whisper, low and tempting. He continued to avoid looking at her, but the intensity of her gaze bored holes in his back. With a red-hot cattle prod.

Damn, damn, damn. If you only knew how much.

“There’s rum.” He ignored the chilled bottles of ice wine and a pint of peach schnapps, and opened the door to an artfully-hidden mini-fridge next to the antique sideboard, only vaguely wondering why Max displayed the cloying stuff among his über-masculine bourbons and ryes. Anything to avoid facing Zena and her assessing looks.

Well, what do you know? Oranges, limes, lemons, cherries. Coconut milk, cranberry, pomegranate and pineapple juice. Grenadine. More than enough stuff to mix her a Heat Wave and let her pretend they were basking on a beach somewhere. On the other hand…yeah…better not broadcast his outta-control physiology. He pushed items around in the small, but well-stocked refrigerator. “Ginger beer. I can make you a Dark & Stormy.”

“Yeah. Good. I’ll take that. I’m feeling all kinds of dark. And stormy. Heavy on the ice. It’s hot enough to melt glaciers in here. Or…I am.”

That makes two of us.

BLURB:

Sent into the human realm to retrieve prodigal princess, Zena Night, Bhyrne Raines is shocked and unprepared for his carnal reaction to the sexy succubus. In service to the succubus queen, the rugged enforcer must stifle the instant passion exploding within him. Fulfilling his royal duty doesn’t allow for quickie dalliances. His biological clock is ticking, and he begins to enter breedspawn, an intense and unstoppable frenzy of mating all fire-demon males must endure. But the more he wants to avoid Zena, the more he’s drawn to her.

Reluctant to give up her carefree life of partying among the mortals when the hot-as-sin Bhyrne comes to fetch her for the queen, Zena uses her succubus wiles to entice him, or at least delay the inevitable trip to the royal court. Once in the demon stronghold, hidden deep within the Catskill mountains, she learns the reason for the summons: she must choose a consort within two days.

Zena needs a mate. Bhyrne needs to mate. With time running out for both of them, they each turn to 1Night Stand. With time running out, can Madame Eve come to the rescue?

HEAT WAVE is out now on Amazon and will release “officially” on August 13th.

Here’s the HEAT WAVE cocktail recipe from goodcocktails.com:

Heat Wave Drink

Ingredients

Garnish: Cherry and Pineapple Slice

Instructions

Pour the coconut rum and peach schnapps into a glass with ice. Fill it with pineapple and add the splash of grenadine. Garnish with pineapple slice and cherry.

And a slightly more elaborate version:

1 1/4 oz coconut rum
1/2 oz peach schnapps
3 oz pineapple juice
3 oz orange juice
1/2 oz grenadine syrup

Add all ingredients (except grenadine) to a glass 1/2 filled with ice cubes. Top with grenadine. Garnish with a fresh slice of peach, and serve.

What’s your poison?

  1. Thanks for having me! (Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!)

  2. Oh, I’m going to have to try that one. All the best, Taryn! 🙂

  3. I love a good cocktail with HOT book! Thanks so much for hanging out with us, Taryn!

  4. Lately my poison has been “Refresh” by Barefoot wine. It is a crisp, slightly bubbly white wine that is an awesome “porch pounder” for hot summer nights!

  5. Thanks, Jess! Thanks, Lisa!

  6. Ooooh, SnarkyMom. Sounds tasty! The heroine of FROST had a thing for ice wine. (Sexy scene with it, too!)
