Taking Over Me by Sara Brookes

My newest book, Taking Over Me – a BDSM erotic romance – released yesterday. One of the greatest things about writing  it was the geek culture references I got to slip in. After all, with a geeky heroine who has a fondness for collecting comic books and late-night gaming sessions, how could I not?

He’s everything she didn’t know she needed…

Allison would rather fix computers than worry about sex. That is, until the newest barista in town changes everything. All it takes is one hot stare with his sinful baby blues to remind her she’s not just one of the guys. She has lusty needs only he can fulfill.

Patrick’s coffee shop is on the verge of an epic failure, until Allison takes charge of his computer system. He may not know anything about motherboards, but he does know how to take control—in and out of bed. Now Patrick is determined to get what he wants—Allison in his cuffs. His sensual mastery awakens an intense passion and under his command, he’ll unlock the geek girl’s darkest desires.

Warning: Collars. Cuffs. Clamps. Coffee.
You may never look at your local barista the same way again.

How about the “inside scoop” on some of those references…

Allison, an IT specialist, is looking over a very broken register at Patrick’s coffee house. While preparing her order (a double espresso), Patrick makes small talk:

“You know, that’s nearly lethal.”

A piece of her wispy blonde bangs fell into her eyes as she studied the keyboard. “Habit, really. Started when I was a senior in college to get them through all those grueling finals. I’m addicted now, so it’s too late to stop.”

“Local university?”

“West coast. Pacific Tech. Worked as a barista to help pay for everything my scholarships didn’t cover.

There is no college named Pacific Tech. One of my favorite movies is Real Genius. Guess what made up college they attend? You guessed it – Pacific Tech!

One of Allison’s favorite curses comes from a television show. During her first date with Patrick, he asks her about it:

“I’ve been meaning to talk to you about something.”

“What?” She braced herself for the inevitable “buddy” talk.

“Frak. What does that mean?”

She sighed in relief. Not what she expected at all. This she could handle. “It’s from Battlestar Galactica. It was a way for the show to get around the censors since they couldn’t use fuck. It’s just stupid geek stuff again. Sorry.”

“Stupid geek stuff, huh?”

Have to love the creativity of writers on television shows. How about one last one? During a very intimate moment, Allison’s fondness for superheroes is exposed:

She tugged at the hem of her tee, whisking it over her head. Before she lowered her arms, he reached out and traced the underside of her breasts with one finger. The light contact caused her to shiver. Even through the padded material of her bra, she felt his sizzling touch. Her breath caught as he traced a pattern.

“That is completely perfect and absolutely you.”

Startled, she remembered what bra she’d chosen to wear when she’d woken up this morning. His light touch traced the outline of the Superman logo laser-cut into the fabric at the top of the bra cup. Dear God. Mortified, she shrugged off the strap as he chuckled.

At least he was amused.

This isn’t the only instance where her love of comic books & superheroes get tangled with her desires for Patrick. But you’ll have to read the book to find all about one super-hot, super sexy encounter in a comic book store…

Do you have any geeky culture (video games, television shows, movies, etc..) things you’re a fan of? Tell me and you could win your choice of one of my backlist ebooks! (Please include an email address).

Contest ends 11: 59 p.m. EST on 3/24/2013

Sara Brookes is an award-winning author who has always been fascinated by the strange, the unusual, the twisted and the lost (tortured heroes are her personal favorite). She is an action movie junkie, addicted to coffee and has been known to stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing RPG video games. Despite all this, she is a romantic at heart and is always a sucker for an excellent love story. Born and bred in Virginia, Sara still lives there with her husband and daughter.

  1. Congratulations on your new release, Sara! It was with this story that you introduced me to the world of BDSM. 🙂

  2. Congrats on the new release Sara! That cover is sooo hot!

I try to keep it low key, but I do have a fondness for video games. Minor, of course, you know. I would never spend 10 hours playing GTA and then be surprised when I looked around and found the sun had come up.

  3. Congrats on the release! I’m a big fan of geeky TV shows (Star Trek (the original), Dr. Who, Big Bang Theory). Always make me feel better.

Thanks for hanging out with us!

    • Thanks, Emily (and that you guys for having me here!). TBBT always makes me laugh, no matter how foul my mood.

  4. This sounds like a good book. I am very much a geek myself. I play MMO’s, x-box and pc games. I watch Star Wars LotR’s (extended editions of course) Do I need to go on? lol But I was lucky enough to marry a geek as well so we support each other’s obsessions.
