Quick and Dirty by Emily Cale

I often hear from people that I should write longer books. I have a nice handful of novellas out and one novel, but I’ve been writing a lot of short stories recently.

I kind of love them. Not because they are fast to write, but because I like the high stakes that can take place in a short setting. Maybe it is only one night or a day or two, but if it is worth writing about, it’s because those are the moments that are going to change those characters forever.

We’ve all had them. Sometimes you can pick them out as their happening. Other times, it is only in retrospect that you are able to see the way that it changed your life. A single day or decision that led a chain reaction that has made your life (hopefully) better. That’s what I love about these short glimpses. You, the reader, don’t need to know all the little things that happen next, because you are getting a peek at the most intense part.

For my heroine Julie, that decision takes place while she is working in Dubai. She finally gets up the courage to ask for what she really wants, a menage with her friend (and sometime lover) and his new boyfriend. It’s through that experience she learns about herself and what she really wants.

DUBAI NIGHTS

dubainights_msr (2)Three weeks. That’s how long Julie has been forced to listen to her one-time playmate Chris and his new partner Ian having sizzling sex through the painfully thin walls of their Dubai hotel. She wants nothing more than to crawl into bed with them. And after all, they have invited her to join in their fun and games.

Julie’s ready to take them up on the offer—if she can just work out a way to keep them in her bed but out of her heart.

  1. I really like writing short as well. Fast, intense, ultra-sexy, short stories can pack a lot of punch!

  2. LOL. I just got a comment from a reader who loves my books but wishes they were longer. I find, with these short thrusts, there is no room for any of the boring parts! It’s all hot action from page one to the glorious finish.

On that note, Dubai Nights looks like just my kind of read!! Thanks Em!

    • Thanks for stopping by Sabrina. Yeah, I get that comment a lot. I tend to take it as a compliment. Love it, but want more. I just want to focus on the exciting parts (which also happen to be the dirty parts!)

  3. A twist is always good for a short story!
    Keep writing Emily!

  4. i am a big fan of shorts, i can’t believe they haven’t become even more popular with the decreasing attention spans and the ease of downloading.

    • I think they are getting more popular. A decade ago, I had people telling me that you basically couldn’t publish short stories unless you were super famous or got one in a magazine. Now you can find lots of places that publish them (at least in the romance genre).

  5. I am an avid reader so I read any length of story. Thanks for the heads up about your book. It sounds great.

  6. I like what you guys tend to be up too. This type of clever work and coverage!
Keep up the awesome works guys I’ve added you guys to our blogroll.
